Daffodil Yen & Other Artsy Nonsense

I've had a yen for a few days to get a pic of the newly bobbing daffies by moonlight. I'm pretty sure they don't close at night like the tulips do...

Anyway, here's the proof; not by moonlight, but by streetlight, outside Palki in North Van on a fine (if overcast) April evening.

It's an iPhone pic, so a trifle grainy, but still, proof of spring in the nicest possible way. Hoping for some cherry blossom pix tomorrow -- the trees were awash in bloom downtown tonight, but out here in the more mountainous coastal environs, our cherries are just now taking a first peek skyward.

Speaking of pictures, I want to upload this one of Jian Ghomeshi, interviewing singer Divine Brown on the set of Q live. Jian survived an interview from hell with Billy Bob Thornton today with grace and good humour. You can see the interview HERE. Personally, I think Jian should have thrown the bum out -- his bandmates were clearly mortified -- but he kept his cool. Here's to you Jian!

(Once again a crappy iPhone picture -- must remember to bring my Pentax with me to these things!)

In other news, author Robert J. Sawyer is embarking on a North American tour to celebrate the publication of his new novel WAKE. Here are his dates -- check it out to see if he's coming to a venue near you...

WHOO HOO!!! He's coming to Montreal!!

I wonder if he'll sign all his books if I schlep them to the bookstore? I've just started reading CALCULATING GOD and I'm loving it. How could I not? He references all my favourites haunts in Toronto, it's smart and funny AND there's an inside joke about SOUTH PARK. Come on. Doesn't get better than that.(g)

Actually, I have a different take on the Billy Bob thing. Listen to the way the interviewer introduces them. The way he is subtly mocking them, how many records they have pumped out, leaning on BB's other career. The interviewer was being rude in a sly way and BB got pissed off and decided to shut him down. Also look at how he is focusing most of his questions on BB. There is a whole band there. When do interviewer ever focus the majority of questions to the drummer? Never.

BB just wants to be part of the band and nobody will let him.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think BB is a jerk, but there is WAY more going on here, and honestly, the interviewer was talking about things that had previously been agreed upon that he wouldn't talk about it. And then once they got BB into the studio and in front of cameras they violated that agreement.

Saw the interview on You tube - and agree with you, Karen, completely.

I'm so sorry I missed the Chapters Event! Stan (the Prince) is doing a Voiceover class and also prepping for Kiwanis Fest. So I was a cab driver for the day. I'll watch this blog for any further events -hopefully soon! The book is amazing! I do need it signed....

Hey Anonymous,

You may have a point, though when I watched the Q-tv spot I couldn't see any sarcasm on the part of Jian G. (I confess to being a big fan of his, mind you.) But I was also interested to note, when I saw him do his Juno week special live, how he delights in meeting all his musical guests, to the point of seat-dancing while they perform.

I dunno. I still think Jian handled a tough situation really well. Was it self-inflicted? I just don't think so, but will reserve judgement. It's the polite thing to do! =)
