Hot Fuzz

The boys are back.

Went to see Hot Fuzz tonight with Petey. It was everything I had hoped it would be. I was a bit worried that Simon and his gang wouldn't be able to maintain the standard they set with Shaun of the Dead, but they did just fine.

The cast (and casting) is brilliant, though for the life of my I can't understand why Steve Coogan (and Cate Blanchett, for that matter) would want to perform uncredited. Peter Jackson also shows up in a cameo as an uncredited (but murderous) Santa.

Much gore in the last half hour, but nothing less than one would come to expect from this particular gang of miscreants.

Lovely respite from my labours, but back to programming tomorrow. My goal is to have the SiWC program roughed in and ready for approval by the end of the week. Still working out invites, though, which makes this tougher...

My _secret_ goal is to find three days on the weekend and thereafter to finish DEADLINE once and for all -- for now. For this I may need to run away from my responsibilities, if I can. We'll see.

Pure Hilarity! We saw it last weekend(....highly inappropriate for Miss Fiona, but...oh well!)

I didn't notice Cate Blanchet or Santa. I'll have to watch it again.

Good luck with your three day weekend, Karen. SiWC is looking great! Looks like you're enjoying working on it, too.

I'm not familiar with the story of Coogan's and Blanchett's decisions to perform uncredited, but it's not necessarily from disdain or a need to "protect their image".

For instance, there's an only film called Swing Kids where Ken Brannagh has a fairly major role. He asked to have his name taken off completely, as it might have overshadowed what he thought were brilliant performances by the young men playing the leads.

Hi Trudy!
Poor Fiona -- but I hope she laughed a lot to make up for the gore. I only found out about Cate B. and Peter J. when I looked up Steve Coogan on IMdB to see why he wasn't in the credits. His part was as big as Bill Nighey's, so all I can conclude is that it must have been his choice. Cate B. plays the girlfriend, so all we ever see of her are those remarkable eyes.

Hey Cate!

Ah. Well, that's not the case here, of course, but it's always interesting to speculate. Peter Jackson's part is just a murderous blur and Cate Blanchett does all her acting with her eyes, but Steve Coogan does his usual goofball schtick, so you'd think he'd want the credit, somehow. Did you see Tristram Shandy Cock & Bull story? Another really enjoyable bit of nonsense.
